Motor Vessel Fuel Monitoring: Engine, Weather and Voyage Data
MANTRAZ is a motor vessel fuel monitoring system for owners and operators of MVs who want to see what each engine burns across a whole voyage, and why. Main engine fuel is measured by flowmeters on the supply and return lines, and every voyage is broken down by engine, operation mode and the sea conditions the vessel met on the way.
Long passages, few clear answers
A motor vessel in commercial trade spends long stretches at sea between ports. Over a passage like that, fuel depends on many things at once: the speed the vessel held, how long the engines ran hard, and the wind and waves along the route. When a voyage uses more fuel than the last one, a total at the end cannot say which of these was to blame.
Manually logged figures add more doubt: a real change in consumption is hard to tell from a recording mistake.
Motor vessel fuel monitoring, engine by engine
For each engine, MANTRAZ shows RPM, speed and fuel consumption side by side, with fuel density and temperature, running hours, exhaust temperature and power meter readings where one is installed. Auxiliary engines are usually estimated from running hours, and reports keep measured and estimated fuel apart, so the figures hold up when questioned.
How the engines were actually run
With operation mode analysis you name RPM bands for each engine, such as idle, maneuver, cruise and full, and MANTRAZ classifies every minute the engine runs. You see how long each engine spent in each mode, what share of its running time that was, and the litres each mode used, based on the consumption rate you set. Time at full RPM stops being a feeling and becomes a figure you can discuss with the crew.
Telling weather from waste
On a long passage, weather is often the first explanation for high consumption, and sometimes it is the right one. MANTRAZ records wave height, period and direction at every GPS point, warns about head seas, beam seas and extreme waves, rates the sea state, and puts it next to performance and on a weather map. You can check whether a heavy voyage was the sea or the way the vessel was sailed.
Voyage reports and comparison
Every voyage report lists distance, average speed, litres per nautical mile, fuel per running hour, time in each operation mode and the wave conditions met on the way. Put two voyages side by side to see the delta %, overlaid charts and both tracks on one map.
Out at sea, a vessel with Starlink on board keeps sending full data; without it, the app's satellite mode still reports position, RPM and auxiliary engine data.
Reports that arrive on their own
Set recipients and a schedule for each vessel, daily, weekly or monthly, at the hour you pick in WIB, WITA or WIT, and MANTRAZ emails a PDF with the summary, vessel tracking and ME and AE fuel consumption without anyone logging in. The delivery log shows which reports went out, which had no data and which hit an error.
Already running on motor vessels
MANTRAZ is already installed on MV vessels, as well as on tugboats, LCT and AHTS vessels. The MV is one example, not a limit: the same system suits other vessel types too.
